“Kamikaze: Day of Darkness, Day of Light” transports visitors back to November 25, 1944, when the USS Intrepid was struck by two kamikaze suicide planes. The exhibit includes a memorial wall that honors the 69 officers and crew members who gave their lives while serving aboard Intrepid.
A multimedia experience, audio, video, lighting controls, smoke and flame effects, projectors and five synchronized video screens comprise the exhibit. All systems combine to create an immersive, on-location environment experience that tells the history of the kamikaze attacks in a gripping and memorable way.
The multiscreen film tells the story of the fateful battle at Leyte Gulf in which the USS Intrepid fought against the Japanese. The show is presented on the actual ship that fought in the battle and is moored in New York as a Museum. The very deck your watching it on is where the fateful kamikaze crashed and killed many a brave sailor. The actors were chosen for resemblances to the actual sailors that were on the ship that day. One of them - Dean Lesnet was still around when the film premiered on the ship. Both actors were filmed on the ship in New York.
